Like all good stories my journey to Reflexology is a personal one. Heavily pregnant in 2009, I found myself on a Maternity Reflexologist’s couch. A mum in my NCT group had recommended I try it as a last resort. The treatment was unlike anything I had experienced before. I was beginning to get very anxious about a looming induction but the Reflexology was deeply relaxing on every level. I could feel my body responding strongly to the point afterwards that I needed to head straight home and rest.
There was some kind of connection? But to what? ENERGY. Such an ‘out-there’ and alien concept for me at the time. I was on maternity leave from my career of the previous decade as a magazine Beauty Director and though had received many ‘holistic’ beauty treatments I’d never ventured into body work.
The next evening, the night before a planned induction, I went into labour with my son. I was 41+6 weeks. Maybe it wasn’t the Reflexology, but I felt sure that the fact I had decreased my stress levels surrounding going into labour had helped.
Fast forward 2 years and I had graduated with a level 3 Reflexology diploma. I’d left my job to freelance and on a whim felt a pull to research Reflexology courses. As the saying goes, I haven’t looked back since.
For the past 8 years I have specialised in Maternity, Preparation For Birth and Postnatal Reflexology. I also have a strong interest in Reproductive Reflexology and what I call ‘Menstrual Tuning’. With my Life Cycles Reflexology (menstrual issues, perimenopause, menopause) we can work with your cycle and symptoms. I also see non-pregnant clients too and have supported a wide range of concerns including insomnia, stress, anxiety and digestive issues.
In addition to foot Reflexology I also offer Dien Chan Zone® Facial Reflexology or you can combine the two. For more information see here.
My Influences
Over the last 5 years my work has been influenced by and immersed in the Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element teachings of Heidi Armstrong of The Bath Complementary College. I am trained in TCM Pregnancy Reflexology, Moxa for Reflexologists and Five Element Reflexology. For more information on what this means for your treatments please read here.
I have turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine throughout my adult years and have always found it to be very effective and beneficial. I am not trained to the level of an acupuncturist but believe that the foundational knowledge I have gained enhances all of the treatments I offer. TCM is a profound and beautiful system of medicine that can prevent illness and promotes balance and harmony. I know I will continue to learn about it for the rest of my life.
In Sept 2019 I trained in Gua Sha Facial Fusion with Cecily Braden. Another career pivoting moment. I had been looking to introduce a holistic beauty treatment but, despite previously training in holistic facials, I never felt they had the depth I wanted to offer. Facial Gua Sha (a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine) has become an absolute passion both for me personally and in clinic. It has changed the way I feel about ageing and empowered me to grow older without fear or apology. I have since trained in Traditional East Asian Cosmetic Revitalisation & Illnesses with Jong Baik Education and
At 48, I am genuinely at ease with ageing naturally and this is the message I share with women through my treatments and in my online presence @dwell_skin on Instagram. For more information and to book please visit my ‘sister’ site www.dwellskin.co.uk
